JANUARY 2024

On 30th January, students of present Class XI had organised a Farewell party for the outgoing Class XII students in the school premises. The programme started with a prayer and Bible reading. There were a few students who had studied in this school from Nursery. They shared their feelings and felt sad to say good-bye to their Alma mater. The highlight of the program was the selection of Miss UCS and Mr. UCS.

A PEACE RALLY was held on 20th January, 2024, organised by Bengal Christian Council in association with Bangiya Christiya Pariseba and other churches in Bengal. This walk was led by led by BCC President the Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta, CNI. He was accompanied by our distinguished and along with clergies and dignitaries. Teachers as well as other staff members from all the CNI schools had joined the Peace Rally. The rally started from the grounds of St. Paul’s Cathedral and concluded at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, at the end of Mayo Road.

On 12th January, 2024, the teachers of Union Chapel School along with the teachers of St. Paul’s Mission School embarked on a refreshing journey to Barasat, Max Garden for STAFF PICNIC. It was day when the staff of both the schools were able to get together, share some thoughts, make up teams and compete in all the games that were arranged for them.

DECEMBER 2023

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS were distributed to the clergies at the Bishop House on 22nd December at Bishop’s House, with the blessings of His Grace, The RT. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta.

ANNUAL SPORTS MEET – JUNIOR SECTION was held on 16 th December, 2023, in the grounds of our school. The Sports Meet was inaugurated by our Chief Guest, Mr. Sourav George Singh, Principal of St. James’ School, Behala. We were honoured by the august presence of Mrs. Sharmishtha Nanda and Revd. Sourav Roy from Osmond Memorial Church. Children from our Junior Section participated the Sports Meet with a lot of enthusiasm. They dressed up in colourful and fancy costumes and happily competed in the various events which were interestingly named as ‘Honey Bunny’, ‘Horse Race,’ ‘Dress Me Up, ‘Handling the Baton’, ‘Happily Ever After’ and others. The formation of Pyramid was well executed by the children. Parents were excited to watch the performance of the children participating in these races. They applauded them.

On 7th December, a symposium on POWER AND PORSPECT OF LANGUAGE LEARNING was organised at Lalit Great Eastern, Kolkata. Discussion on Global Ambitions – Local Roots gave an insight into the present day prospects of Language Learning. It was attended by our Respected Mrs. Jayita Biswas.

On 4th December, a cultural programme – PORTRAYING THE RICH CULTURE OF WEST BENGAL was organised at St. James’ Auditorium. Teachers from our School and from St. Paul’s Mission School, jointly put up a presentation. This programme was attended by The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta, Bishop Ian Paton from Scotland and other eminent dignitaries

On 2nd December, our school enthusiastically participated in the DEM FETE held in the grounds of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The Rt. Revd.  Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta along with the esteemed members of the Board visited our school’s stall. His Grace, our Bishop was felicitated by our Respected Teacher in-charge, Mrs. Jayita Biswas.

Our school’s stall attracted many visitors who were very interested in the delicious food items that were being sold. Apart from food items jewellery and other arts and crafts items made by the students were also put up for sale.

A ‘Tattoo Corner’, put up by our Art Department attracted a large number of visitors who eagerly wanted to paint tattoos on their arms.

NOVEMBER

On 29th November, 2023 MILAN MELA and ANNUAL EXHIBITION was organised in our school. Students from the Junior Section displayed their annual art and crafts works in the Annual Exhibition. The Senior Section students had put up some installations and models subject-wise.

Milan Mela was a fun day not only for the students but for the parents and teachers as well. Food stalls selling delicious food items were put up. Children came accompanied by their parents and friends and enjoyed having their favourite snacks and playing games in the Games Zone and in the Treasure Hunt.  

Celebration of CHILDREN’S DAY is always a special event for all of us. This year it was celebrated on 17th November, 2023. The programme started with a word of prayer which was followed by a cultural programme organised by the teachers for the students.

REMEMBERANCE SUNDAY was observed on 12th November, 2023 at St. John’s Church. Our Respected Teacher-in-charge, Mrs. Jayita Biswas paid Homage to the martyrs of the Second World War. She was accompanied by Gaurav Singh and Suhana Pandey, the Head Boy and Head Girl of our School. 

Our 56th FOUNDER’S DAY was celebrated on 9th November, 2023. The programme was graced by The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta, and the esteemed members of the Board of Governors.

Our Bishop conducted the Church Service and congratulated and blessed our ICSE and ISC toppers. His Grace had also unveiled ‘CREATIVO’ our School Magazine.

On the same day, his Grace had inaugurated and blessed our newly built Senior Staff room in the presence of Revd. P.K.Nanda, Presbyter in-Church, Union Chapel,  Mr. Ritesh Sarkar, Honorary Secretary and Mr. Soumendra Nath Adhikary, Honorary Treasurer and other eminent dignitaries.

SEPTEMBER

TEACHER’S DAY on 5th September, a cultural programme was organized by the students to showcase their love and respect for their beloved teachers. 

IDFC First Bank had organised a HEALTH CHECK-UP camp in the school premises on 5th September, to express their gratitude for the teachers of our school

SILENT PEACE RALLY was organized by Bengal Christian Council (BCC) jointly with Diocese of Calcutta (CNI), Diocese of Barrackpore (CNI) and Methodist Bengal Regional Conference on 1st September. This walk was led by Our Grace The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta and President of BCC along with clergies and dignitaries. Teachers from all the CNI schools joined the Silent Peace Rally with a lot of fervour protesting silently against the injustice meted towards the victims of Manipur through prayers. This rally started from St. Paul’s Cathedral to Mahatma Gandhi Statue.

FEBRUARY 2024

SONY YAY ENTERTAINMENT had organised a fulfilled event for the students of our Junior section in our school premises. Children were able to enjoy the cartoon show of their favourite cartoon characters namely, OBOCCHAMA KUN, OGGY and the COCKROACHES and OMNI No. 1. Children enjoyed this event and participated in the dance quiz programme oranised by the personnel of this popular television channel.

JANUARY 2024

SHER had organised a WORKSHOP on LEADERSHIP ENVIRONMENT for TEACHERS at Nehru Children’s Museum on 30th January. This was attended by teachers – Mrs. Meenakshi Bose and Mrs. Tulika Biswas Ghose. 

Certificates were awarded to the winners of the INTER-HOUSE CHESS COMPETITION in our School Assembly on 29th January. Students from Classes VI to XII had participated in this Competition, which was held over the entire month. Yusuf Zaman of Class IX of Emerald House secured the 1st position while the 2nd position was taken by Satrik Das of Class VI of Topaz House. 

Students had attended a COOKING COMPETITION held at the campus of IIHM on 23rd January. This gave the students an exposure to a new area which can be a good career option for them in future.

DECEMBER

On 15th December, St. Thomas Day School had organised – Magic of Christmas.  It was the Stuart Munro Inter-School Carol Singing Competition. Our school had competed with nine other schools and had emerged the winner. It was a proud moment for all of us.

As a part of the promotional event, a team from TATA SOULFULL visited our school and organised an event – Desh for Millets for our Junior Section on 14th December. They informed the students about the healthy products and entertained them.

SHER – Kids for Tigers had organised a drawing competition for the children in the age group of 8 years to 16 years in two clusters. Children had to make paintings, all related to the theme WILDLIFE OF WEST BENGAL AND US submit to the organisation. Selection of best pictures would be made from those and would be displayed in the Gold Gallery. Our children painted pictures related to the theme and had sent it for selection on 12th December.

A team from CORNITOS CRUSTIES came to our school to promote their new snacks items. They played memory games and also performed some physical activities with the children from our Junior Section by on 8th December.

NOVEMBER

ARCHDIOCESE ANNUAL BIBLE QUIZ was held on 18th November, 2023 at Don Bosco School, Park Circus. It was organised by the Archdiocese Social Communications Commission. A total twenty-five schools and churches across Kolkata had participated. Valentina D’Souza of Class XII and her team were the winners

OCTOBER

Marzuk Saifuddion Tarafdar and Tanushree Ghosh had participated in NIT-LIT, A LITERARY FEST, held in the campus of NARULA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY on 12th October. They won medals for Spell-Bee as well as for Quiz Competition.

Like each year, this year too, IIHM, organized a COOKING COMPETITION in our school premise on 11th October for the students of Classes V, VI, XI, XII as well as for teachers. The judges were enthralled by the culinary skills of the participants.

INTER HOUSE QUIZ COMPETITION for CLASSES IX to XII was conducted on 5th October. The students not only enjoyed in participating but also gained knowledge.

SEPTEMBER

Principal par Excellence Award

It was a proud moment for our school as our Respected Teacher-in-charge, Mrs. Jayita Biswas was conferred the prestigious Principal par Excellence Award 2023 by IIHM on 2nd September. Mrs. Dalia Panja, one of our teachers received the Teacher’s Excellence Award 2023.

U Genius 2.0 QUIZ COMPETITION was organized on 8th September by UNION BANK. Four teams, each comprising two students from the senior section participated in the event. It was held at Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium, Kolkata. 

QUIZ COMPETITION by CLASSMATE
CLASSMATE, a popular school stationery brand had organized a QUIZ COMPETITION on 8th September for the senior students.

HEROES OF KINDNESS

On 4th September, POGO, a popular TV Channel had organised an interactive session with the students from the Junior Section. They played various games with the students and had arranged for a Cartoon show depicting their favourite cartoon characters from the popular Cartoon show – ‘CHOTA BHEEM’. Their programme was named HEROES OF KINDNESS.

AUGUST

DRAWING COMPETITION FOR JUNIORS
Students from Nursery to Class V had participated in the Drawing Competition which was held on 28th August. The students had translated their dreams into colourful drawings.
YOUNG ACHIEVERS
Swani Gupta of Class VIA had participated in the 1st INTERNATIONAL OPEN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2023 held on 27th August, 2023 at Subuj Sangha Krirangan, Howrah. She secured 1st position and was awarded Gold Medal.
Mayukh Ghosh, a student of Class VIIIA, had participated in the 78th ANNUAL AQUATIC MEET 2023  organised by Bowbazar Bayam Samity on  10th September. He had secured 2nd position  in freestyle 50 meters swimming competition.
TITANS OF TOMORROW
CARTOON NETWORK, a popular channel organized a Cartoon show – SAVE THE PLANET for the Junior section on 23rd August.
UNDER 14 CISCE SWIMMING MEET 2023
CISCE WESTBENGAL AND NORTH EAST REGIONAL Under 14 SWIMMING MEET – 2023 was hosted by Doughlas International School, Barrackpore on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th August. Our student from Class VIII, Mayukh Ghosh had participated in 50-free style, 100-meter free style and 50-meter back stroke.
TRUE HEARTS
Riya Yadav of Class VIIIB and Satish Kumar Shaw of Class IXA were awarded with “We are Proud of You” Certificates were given to them in the School Assembly.
PARTICIPATION IN ‘DIO SPECTRA’

‘DIO – SPECTRA’, a two-day fest held on 4th and 5th August was organised by St. Johns’ Diocesan Girls’ High School. Nearly 20 schools participated in this fest in different events. We bagged four prizes:
2nd position in :
Verse Unplugged – a musical enactment,
Nutrified – Non-fire Cooking and
Magic Melody – presentation of English Retro songs
3rd position in Classical Fusion Dance, an event aptly named Jhankar.
Our School was declared 3rd among all the schools that participated.

Inter House Extempore Competition – Hindi was held on 3rd August.
Inter House Extempore Competition – Bengali was held on 2nd August.

Inter House Extempore Competition – English was held for on 1st August.

JULY

INTER-HOUSE ELOCUTION FOR JUNIORS

It was held for three days on 3rd, 4th and 5th of July.

QUIZ ON BUSINESS IDEAS – an All India National Level Entrepreneurship Quiz was organized by ‘GET SET LEARN’ and ‘TiE Bangalore’ for the senior students on 3rd July. This quiz was conducted by Future Unicorn Launchpad. This was an effort to shape young minds for tomorrow’s successful businesses.

MAY

INTER HOUSE CARROM COMPETITION FOR SENIORS
Inter House Carrom Competition was held for a week from 26th July. It was for the first time that such a competition was introduced in the school. The students participated in it with a lot of enthusiasm.
REGIONAL GAMES AND SPORTS 2023
Jasim Mullick, a student of Class XII had won the 1st Prize (Gold Medal) in CISCE Regional Games under 19, in the Shooting Tournament hosted by Delhi Public School, Megacity, Kolkata held in 14th and 15th July.

IIHM YOUNG CHEF INDIA

Adhitishree Bhattacharya of Class XII had been selected as the IIHM Young Chef India Finalist, which was held at the IIHM global campus on 12th May.
She had prepared Masala rice flour Upma along with Chicken Skillet a unique dish highly appreciated by the judges.

IIHM had conducted the ‘Young Chef India Regional Semi Final Cooking Competition on 9th May, 2023. Four students of class XII of our school – Anushka Nijhawan, Valentina D’Souza, Adhitishree Bhattacharya and Dipali Pandey who were selected as Semi Finalists had participated in the event. They had cooked delicious dishes and presented their dishes nicely to the judges.

One of our teachers, Mrs. Soma Sarkar had represented our school with pride by participating in the ‘IIHM Teacher Chef India Schools’ competition 2022 on 9th May, 2023, at IIHM campus.
