MAY 2024

Students had organised a program under the guidance of their teachers to pay tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on 8th May, celebrating his 163rd Birth Anniversary.

A wonderful presentation of his songs, poems, dances and drama around the theme – “Amra Natun Yuwan er Dut,” which translates to “We are the harbinger of the new era” was presented. This musical was based on Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s dance drama – ‘Tasher Desh’ – ‘The Land of Cards’.

Following the musical, senior students presented a choral recitation of the poem “Sabuj er Abhijan” in Bengali, Hindi, and English.

DIOCESAN STAFF MEET 2024 –an Interaction Programme with Teaching and Non-Teaching staff of the Diocesan Institutions under the Diocese of Calcutta (CNI) was held on 11th May in the premises of St. James’ School, auditorium.

JUNE 2024

International Yoga Day was observed in our school on 21st June. Students performed different yoga exercises and the importance of yoga was discussed for the benefit of the students. Students who had performed yoga exercises were felicitated in the School Assembly.

PREFECT INVESTITURE CEREMONY held on 24th June 2024, was a solemn event wherein the newly elected Captains and Prefects took the oath to serve the school as well as their peers and juniors with love, respect, honesty and loyalty.
The Revd. P.K. Nanda, Presbyter-in-charge, Union Chapel, blessed them and presented their batches according to their positions and Houses.

Union Chapel School hosted its Annual Prize Day on 29th June, 2024. It was a day dedicated to honor the outstanding accomplishments of our students.

The ceremony was presided over by His Grace, The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta. Our Board of Governors, Heads of the institutions and members of the clergy present, blessed and congratulated the students as received their prizes, medals and certificates.

It was a pleasure to have Dr. (Mrs.) Madhumanjari Mandal, Principal, Scottish Church College as the Chief Guest. Her solemn words were a source of inspiration for our students.

JULY 2024

‘REACH OUT STAR AWARD CEREMONY – TOPPERS OF XII’, an award ceremony was organized 3rd July by Reach Out Star Foundation to felicitate the toppers of ISC Examination as well as the Head of the Institution. Gaurav Kumar Singh was awarded the prize for scoring 89% in ISC 2024.

Canteen for both Senior and Junior section was organised for the students, 3rd July, 2024 onwards during the break-time. This was done to collect funds that would be used to provide educational support to the underprivileged children. This initiative was taken up by each class gradually.

AUGUST 2024

Union Chapel School celebrated 78th Independence Day of our Nation with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The celebration started with the hoisting of our National flag by Revd. P.K. Nanda, Presbyter in-charge and our Teacher-in-charge Mrs. Jayita Biswas along with the melodious presentation of our National Anthem by the staff and students.
Milan Mela was organised in the school premises, for the students, their parents and friends. Stalls like ‘Treasure Hunt’, Games section, Tattoo Corner, Music Corner were put up. To add to the fun, Food stalls were put up for the students.

SEPTEMBER 2024

To observe Teachers’ day, officers from Canara Bank had visited our school on 4th September. They greeted our teachers and elaborated on the schemes of their Bank. After their interaction, they gifted a pen honouring the teachers.

On Teachers’ Day, our school was filled with joy and abuzz with activities, as students expressed their gratitude through heartfelt speeches and performances, honouring the dedication of their educators. Our Respected Teacher in-charge, Mrs. Jayita Biswas expressed her love and appreciation for both the teaching and non-teaching members of our Union Chapel School. The event ended with the presentation of tokens of appreciation for all the staff members.

IIHM celebrated Teachers’ Day by felicitating esteemed Principals and Teachers on 7th September, 2024 at their IIHM Global Campus, Salt Lake. On this occasion, our Respected Teacher in-charge, Mrs. Jayita Biswas was conferred with the prestigious Principal par Excellence Award 2024. Our Asst. teachers, Mrs. Sikha Saha Sapui and Mrs. Aditi Deb were presented with Teachers par Excellence Award 2024.

Inter House Mock Seminar on Power Point Presentation was held on 11th September 2024. Students of Classes IX to XII took part in this competition. The Power Point presentation was well-structured and effectively conveyed the key concepts of the topic. The slides were clear, with relevant visuals that supported their explanations. Each group member demonstrated a good understanding of their assigned section, speaking confidently and engaging with the audience. Overall, the presentation was informative and well-coordinated.

OCTOBER 2024

National Olympiad exams of English, General Knowledge, Mathematics were conducted during the month of October. Students from Classes III to X appeared for this exam. It was conducted in the school premises

INTER HOUSE MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY PRIZE DISTRIBUTION – Prizes for Mobile photography was given away on 22nd October.

NOVEMBER 2024

On 5^th November, an orientation program DEIA club members was organised by our school in our school premises. Mrs. Monijinjhir Byapari, President of SEOMP, La Martiniere was present in the event. She interacted with the students and helped them to understand the values and principles of DEIA.

On 10th November, Remembrance Sunday was observed in remembering the martyrs of Second World War. It was attended by our Respected Teacher- in-charge Ma’am and Swayamshree Sahoo, our School Captain at St. Johns’ Church.

‘Quest for Peace’, an exhibition based on the values and principles of DEIA was organised by the students of Union Chapel School on Thursday, 14th November, 2024. The exhibition was inaugurated by His Grace, Our Bishop, The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning and Ms. Elizabeth Lee, Director of American Centre, Kolkata.

December 2024

JUNIOR SECTION Sports Meet was held on 11th December, 2024, in the grounds of our school. The Sports Meet was inaugurated by our Chief Guest, Revd. P. K. Nanda Presbyter in-Charge, Union Chapel. Children from our Junior Section participated the Sports Meet with a lot of enthusiasm. They dressed up in colourful and fancy costumes and happily competed in the various events which were interestingly named as ‘Christmas Around the Corner’, ‘Delivery Boys in Town,’ ‘Flowery Basket’, ‘Rocking around the Christmas Tree’, and others. The formation of Pyramid was well executed by the children. Our Respected Teacher-in-Charge Mrs. Jayita Biswas awarded the winners of these events with medals and certificates. Parents were excited to watch the performance of the children participating in these races. They applauded them.

Annual Sports Meet 2024 – Senior Section was held on 14th December, 2024, in the grounds of Scottish Church College Ground. We were privileged to have among us Mr. Moloy Mukherjee, a well-known mountaineer, and Major General Vivek Tyagi, an accomplished officer in the Indian Army and presently Addl. Director of the NCC as our Chief Guest. The Sports Day was a grand event, filled with energy, enthusiasm and healthy intent. Students showcase their skills in various games and races, celebrating teamwork, spirit and joyous faces. The Winners Cup was lifted by Emerald House followed by Ruby House as the Runners Up

January 2025

A Peace Rally was organised by Bengal Christian Council in association with Bangiya Christian Parishad on 20th January, 2025 at 1:00p.m. from St. Paul’s Cathedral to Mahatma Gandhi statue, in Mayo Road (Kolkata). The rally was led by the President of BCC, The Rt. Revd. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta. It was attended by Respected clergies, Board members, Heads of the educational institutions, teachers, staff members of all CNI schools, members of churches not only from Kolkata but also from different parts of West Bengal.

Inter-House Extempore Competition in English, Bengali and Hindi was organised for the students of Classes VI to XII on 28th January, 2025. Students representing from all the Four Houses (Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz) participated in this Competition enthusiastically.

This year, farewell celebration for Class XII batch of 2024, was organized by the students of Class XI on 31st January. The program began with a welcome speech followed by performances of the students of Class XI which included songs, dances, and a skit. Our Respected Teachers-in-charge, Ma’am, Mrs. Jayita Biswas shared inspiring words and best wishes for the students of Class XII. The farewell celebration ended with the distribution of mementos and crowning of Miss UCS and Mr. UCS. The event was a memorable and touching tribute to the departing students, making it a day to cherish for everyone.

APRIL 2024

On 13th April, IIHM had conducted the IIHM Teachers Chef Semi-Final at IIHM campus. Our teachers, Mrs. Moumita Sen, Mrs. Suparna Das and Mrs. Sumita Laha participated in the competition.

MAY 2024

FUN WITH RED, a fun-filled activity day was organised on 2nd May for the Junior students – Classes Nursery, KG and Transition. Children celebrated this day by wearing red coloured dresses and painted and pasted posters with their drawings of things that are red in colour.

IIHM had conducted the ‘IIHM Teacher Chef India Schools – Finale 2023’ on 9th May, 2024. One of our teachers, Mrs. Sumita Laha had represented our school with pride. Her culinary skill was highly appreciated by the esteemed judges.

On 11th May, children of our Junior Section were very happy to showcase their love for their dear mothers on the special day of MOTHER’S DAY. They paid their obeisance to the mothers by reciting poems and drawing pictures.

Students from Psychology Department of Calcutta University had conducted a Survey on 15th May. Target group for the survey were the students of Classes VI and VII.

JUNE 2024

Inter-House Chess Competition 2024-2025 was organised from 25th to 27th June.
The winners were – Tanushree Ghosh of XB – Emerald House, 2nd Runners up Saatrik Das of VIA – Topaz House and 3rd Runners up Chirag Shaw – Topaz House.

Another fun-filled and colourful activity day – Yellow Day was organised on 26th and 27th June for the students of Nursery to Class I.

JULY 2024

JUNIOR SECTION INTER-HOUSE ENGLISH ELOCUTION was organised on 9th of July. Students from Classes I, II, III, IV & V representing the four School Houses recited their pieces, with a lot of enthusiasm. The judges had a challenging task in choosing the winners. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of all participants and thank our teachers for making this event a resounding success.

JUNIOR SECTION INTER-HOUSE HINDI ELOCUTION was organised on 10th of July. The zeal and the oratory skills of the students of Classes I, II, III, IV & V representing the four School Houses left the audience spellbound.

JUNIOR SECTION INTER-HOUSE BENGALI ELOCUTION was organised on 11th of July. Students of Classes I, II, III, IV & V representing the four School Houses showcased their talents by reciting works from eminent Bengali poets. The eloquence and expressiveness of displayed by the participants left the judges mesmerized.

CISCE REGIONAL GAMES and SPORTS 2024 – BOYS SWIMMING COMPETITION -2024 under 14, under 17 and under 18 was held at Adamas International School on 11th and 12th July. Mayukh Ghosh of Class IXA and Subham Sahoo of Class VIIIB participated in this event. It was a good learning experience for them.

Senior students heartily participated in the INTER HOUSE CARROM COMPETITION that started from 12th July.

Students of Classes VI to VIII, participated in the INTER-HOUSE DRAWING COMPETITION that was held on 15th July in our school. Students from both junior and senior section showcased their drawing skills through various themes related to daily life.

Our students had participated in the CISCE Regional Games & Sports, 2024 Regional Carrom Competition, West Bengal & North East States for Boys & Girls Under 14, 17 19, which was hosted by Divine Mercy School, Howrah on 20th July, 2024. Students from 35 schools had participated in this event.
We are honoured that ‘Prabhat Khabar’, a Hindi daily newspaper published an article, congratulating the success of our students in bagging the 1st Runners up Trophy in Under 17 Group as well as 3rd position in Under 14 Group. They had participated in the Regional Carrom Competition, 2024 for West Bengal & North East States for Boys & Girls Under 14, 17 19. This event was organised by CISCE Regional Games & Sports.

AUGUST 2024

Representatives of Camlin, one of India’s oldest art and stationery supplies companies visited our school on 1st August. They interacted with the students of our junior section and taught them various techniques of drawing.

Cartoon Network, a leading television channel, organised a fun filled event – ‘Titans of Tomorrow – Save the Planet’, for the students of the junior section on 2nd August. This event was co-powered by Classmate, a renowned student stationery brand and Dettol.

On 2nd August, the juniors at school enthusiastically celebrated Green Day, embracing the theme with vibrant green attire and decorations. The classrooms were adorned with eco-friendly crafts, showcasing their creativity and commitment to the environment.
Teachers organized activities focused on the importance of nature conservation, instilling environmental awareness in the young minds.

SEPTEMBER 2024

Students from Classes V to IX participated in ‘Spell Bee Competition’ supported by SBI Life on 10th September.

On 10th September, 2024, students from classes Nursery to Class 1 celebrated Brown Day with great enthusiasm, dressing up in brown outfits and exploring objects of the same colour. They enjoyed themselves engaging in creative activities like colouring and identifying brown items in their surroundings. This fun-filled day helped them recognize the colour brown and develop their observation skills through interactive learning.

Students of our Junior section showcased an impressive range of creativity in the Art competition. Their paintings, drawings and use of colours demonstrated exceptional skill and imagination. Winners were awarded with Certificates and medals which were presented to them by our Respected Teacher in-charge, Mrs. Jayita Biswas on 12th September 2024, during the School Assembly.

IEM’s IIIHM, School of UEM, Kolkata, organised a programme – QUIZ & CUISINE for the students of Class XII in our school on 12.09.2024. Faculty members from this esteemed institution elaborated on the courses tailored for the students of the present generation by their University. After their PowerPoint presentation, quiz was conducted on topics ranging from food to tourism. Winners of the quiz programme were selected and presented with medals and certificates. The most awaited event was the presentation of ‘Cuisine’. Our students prepared delicious dishes, representing various cultural traditions, impressing the judges with taste and presentation. Prizes were awarded to the top three students for the preparation and presentation of their dishes.

On 15th September, students our school participated in All Bengal Inter School Chess Competition, organised by UEM, Kolkata at their Salt Lake campus. Students from various schools had participated in this competition. We are extremely pleased to announce that, Tanushree Ghosh of Class X, showcasing her impressive skills and strategic moves achieved the 2nd position in the competition.

OCTOBER 2024

Sky books publishers appreciates Mrs. Jyoti Lama and other teachers of UCS family for their innovative expression of thoughts as a part of Sky Books Teachers’ Day activity of “Recognising creativity from the creative minds”.

Shubhojit Dey of Class X received the second position in the “Devipaksha” Photography contest conducted by George College, Kolkata.

A heartfelt congratulations to Anonya Baherjee for participating the Regional Finale of the SBI Life Spell Bee 2024, in association with Mirchi . The event was scheduled for Sunday, 27th October, starting at 8:00 AM at GBR, The Lalit, Kolkata.

Students participated in FESTOMA – a three-day fest organised by St. Thomas’ School, Kidderpore from 28^th November to 30^th November. They bagged the 1^st Prize for Strikers – a Carrom competition and 2^nd Prize for Kabbadi and Kite-Making.

NOVEMBER 2024

Shubhojit Sarkar, a student of Class IXB had participated in a Football match held at the Motijheel Football Academy.

The distinguished guests appreciated the awesome display of talent, effort and teamwork of the students.Adhrit Saha of Class II had secured Bronze Medal in 26^th West Bengal State Karate Championship for Sub-Juniors on 20^th November.

The popular brand of Phnyle – Nimyle conducted an event on 20^th November in our school interacting with the students and promoting cleanliness, which is the best option to stay healthy.

Visit to DAS, a NGO, as a part of the DEIA activity on 21st November, 2024. Students spent time and interacted with the children of their educational centre.

A fun filled event was conducted in our school with the students of the Junior section by Lotte Choco-pie on 25^th November.

December 2024

On 3rd December, 2024 a fun-filled event was organised by Tata Soulfull Desh Ke Millets for the students of Classes – VI, VII, VIII, in our school premises.
